This rarely seen, totally unique and superbly crafted cabinet was designed by Carlo Jensen for Poul Hundevad in Denmark during the 1960's.
The tambour doors have been expertly constructed using the narrowest strips of wood with the grain perfectly matched - so that when the doors are closed, they appear at first to be solid teak. They then slide apart and disappear completely, revealing the immaculate birch interior.
The top and surround have been refinished in Coal Black and a hand-painted linear design added in metallic gold. The original block base has been removed and the cabinet elevated on tapered legs with solid brass ferrules.
The interior offers entirely flexible storage, with one height adjustable shelf on the left side and dividers for vinyl storage on the right, all of which can be removed completely if you prefer. A stunning and truly versatile piece.
Please do get in touch if you would like to see a short video clip of the disappearing door in action! Or additional photographs showing the piece from different angles.
Mainland UK delivery (to majority of postcodes) included. For remote areas, Ireland, the highlands and islands, please contact me with your postcode before you buy, to confirm any additional costs.
I work with several specialist couriers, whom I trust fully with my furniture, and my customers! They work to specific routes across the UK, so a degree of flexibility with delivery dates and times will be required. They will keep you fully informed with a time slot in advance and a more accurate ETA on your delivery day. Assistance may be required with lifting.
Alternatively, but entirely at your own risk, you are welcome to arrange your own courier collection from me in Brighton.
My items are very carefully restored and restyled, with every attention to detail. However they are hand-finished, preloved vintage pieces - please expect characterful imperfections and not a factory modern finish.
This piece is in excellent newly refinished condition. The tambour doors slide smoothly with no sticking. The interior is immaculate.
CARING FOR YOUR PIECE
This piece has been refinished using Fusion Mineral Paint, a specialist furniture paint with an environmentally conscious formulation and virtually zero VOCs. It has a highly durable and wipeable finish - but as with any hand painted/refinished item, it will be important to treat your piece with extra care, to keep it looking lovely for years to come. Painted surfaces can be used gently after only 48 hours of drying time, however the paint will usually take a further three weeks to fully cure - during this time, heavier items should not be placed on top.
Always ensure any items placed on to the surfaces are clean and not sticky underneath, use mats and coasters where possible and wipe away any spillages immediately with a soft cloth. Use a soft cloth to dust (dampen with clean water if necessary).
Please note, I cannot accept responsibility for any damage caused to your piece, once it is in your care.
