This beautifully crafted low-line sideboard with striking sculpted handles was produced by Remploy in the 1960's, and has graced my own home for the past three years. The teak veneer has been sensitively cleaned and re-oiled for sale, enhancing the stunning grain, the warm patina contrasting perfectly with the newly refinished Coal Black leg base.
I may shed a little tear when this one goes! - but I have no doubt it will continue to be loved and appreciated by its new owners, and by all who see it. It is a truly special piece 🖤.

In 1945 the Disabled Persons Employment Corporation was founded, providing employment and training for disabled ex-miners and for soldiers returning injured from the Second World War.
A year later the company was renamed Remploy, taken from the literal term 're-employ'. Although best known for furniture, the company produced a variety of items, including musical instruments, knitwear, car parts and medical equipment.
At its height in the late 1980's Remploy employed more than 10,000 people, the vast majority of whom were disabled, across 94 sites in the UK.

I work with several specialist couriers, whom I trust fully with my furniture, and my customers! They work to specific routes across the UK, so a degree of flexibility with delivery dates and times will be required. They will keep you fully informed with a time slot in advance and a more accurate ETA on your delivery day. Assistance may be required with lifting.
Alternatively, but entirely at your own risk, you are welcome to arrange your own courier collection from me in Brighton.

• Covid update:
Deliveries are currently permitted and courier companies are still operating, working to strict Government and public health guidelines, which will mean that they can only deliver to your doorstep, driveway or the pavement outside your home (having collected from me in the same way). If you are unable to or would 9rather not accept deliveries at this time, I would be more than happy to store your piece until current restrictions have been lifted and it is safer to do so. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to talk any of this through further •

My items are very carefully restored and restyled, with every attention to detail. But remember, they are preloved vintage pieces - please expect characterful imperfections and not a factory modern finish. This piece is in fabulous vintage condition overall - it has a chip to the veneer above the door on the right side (photos available by request), but otherwise only minor age related marks, as to be expected. The drawers run smoothly, and the original lining remains on the left side in the top drawer.

Always ensure any items placed on to the surfaces are clean and not sticky underneath. Use mats and coasters if possible and wipe away any spillages immediately with a soft cloth. Use a soft cloth to dust, and avoid harsh/abrasive cleaners.
The leg base has been hand-painted in Coal Black Fusion Mineral Paint, a specialist furniture paint with an environmentally conscious formulation and virtually zero VOCs. It has a highly durable and wipeable finish - but as with any hand painted/refinished item, it will be important to treat these surfaces with extra care, to keep your piece looking lovely for years to come. The paint will usually take around three weeks to fully cure.

Please note, I cannot accept responsibility for any damage caused to your piece, once it is in your care.
